440 stainless steel is as tough as it gets. It has a carbon content range between .95% to 1.20% and is considered higher-end steel. This gives it a high wear resistance which makes it ideal for use in an outdoor environments.
 
440 stainless steel will take the sharpest edge and hold it over time. It gains its strength through heat treatment. Because of this it is considered a high carbon alloy steel which makes it abrasion and corrosion resistant.
